The new Sony Xperia 1 III is here!
The unveiling of Sony’s new flagship, the Sony Xperia 1 III, has been completed. Here you will find a summary of the most important features presented by Sony.
Mitsuya Kishida, president of Sony Mobile Communications Inc., began the event of the unveiling of Sony’s new smartphone, initially talking about the history and achievements of the Xperia 1 series so far. Then he talked about 5G and its capabilities.
Here was the moment of revelation. The new Sony Xperia 1 III is here! Kishida initially commented on the screen, which is OLED, 4K, 120Hz with HDR.
Kishida then gave the reins to Yosuke Kiyama, general manager of Sony’s Mobile Corporation planning department, planning and marketing division, who unveiled the camera system of the device. All specs are listed in detail below. Kiyama initially reported that last year’s Xperia 1 II was the first smartphone with “20fps continuous burst shooting” capability, a feature that came to mobile phones from Sony’s “Alpha” series cameras and is present in the new Xperia 1 III. He talked about Sony 12MP cameras, coordinated in collaboration with Zeiss, saying that they achieve a balance between quality and speed. Of course, the 12MP for a flagship smartphone sounds small, but in itself does not mean anything for the quality of the camera, as we said here.
In addition, Kiyama demonstrated the new features of the Xperia 1 III camera software, focusing on “Real Time Tracking”, which is an autofocus algorithm, the ToF sensor, and other photo and video capture capabilities. It is clear from the time that Sony has devoted to the presentation of the camera system that their new smartphone is focused there. Nevertheless, they also mentioned in detail other functions of their new mobile phone.
Kiyama mentioned the importance of a high quality screen for photographers and gamers alike, with the 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz response rate. Here he unveiled the Snapdragon 888, as well as new software features from Sony, to give gamers an edge. One of them is the “Low Gamma Raiser”, which makes opponents more visible in the shadows. Other gaming features include “Audio Equalizer” to improve acoustics in games, and “Optimize V.C Microphone” to better communicate with teammates, according to Kiyama.
Kiyama then talked about Sony’s high-quality dac and mobile stereo speakers, allowing music to be enjoyed even by the most demanding audiophiles. Here he referred to smartphone functions designed for better music enjoyment, such as “DSEE Ultimate”, “360 Spatial Sound”, and, for mobile speakers, “360 Reality Audio”. Kiyama also said that the Xperia 1 III speakers are 40% more powerful than those of the Xperia 1 II, tuned in collaboration with Tidal, for a more immersive music experience.
Battery and other features
Next, Kiyama reported the battery. The battery has a capacity of 4500mAh and with improved durability. In addition, Kiyama mentioned several more features of the Xperia 1 III, giving a brief overview of each. If you missed the presentation, you can still watch it here, to learn in detail everything about the new Sony Xperia 1 III, but also the other two models in the series, which were also presented today.
Xperia 5 III and Xperia 10 III
Then, Diana Hernandez Gonzalez took the reins and unveiled two more models of the Xperia series, the Xperia 5 III and Xperia 10 III. I will post more information about these phones in future articles.
Diana Hernandez Gonzalez, after completing the presentation of the Xperia 5 III and Xperia 10 III, gave the floor again to Mitsuya Kishida, who closed the presentation. He reminded the viewers of the fact that all 3 of their phones have 5G network support, while he revealed the different colors that are available for their phones, as well as the fact that they will be released at the beginning of the summer. Finally, he thanked the viewers for their presence and wished them safety. It should be mentioned here that Sony did not disclose the prices of its devices in the presentation.
